Welcome to Mosscarr Haflinger Stud
Mosscarr Stud is one of oldest Haflinger Stud in the UK breeding these wonderful Austrian horses since 1977. It was run by the Critchlow family untill 1992 when Joanne Critchlow(daughter) took over running the stud, Joanne is a wealth of knowledge and expertise with regard to all stud work, She is a Qualified BHSII and is known for her ability to train Haflingers to a high standard. Joanne as worked and produced many breeds over the years but her heart belongs to the Haflinger horse, she is a list A panel judge for Haflinger Society of GB and is also a panel judge for the Forign Breed Society.
Over the years the stud as been home to many fantastic Haflingers stallion, Mosscarr became home to Maximillion GB1 in the 1980's when Her Grace the Duchess of Devonshire gifted Maximillion to the family, due the their hard work, dedication and loyalty to her self and the breed. We have had most of the 7 Stallions lines in our breeding program over the years, to name a few. Chatsworth Mango, Chatsworth Magpie, Foich Schichallion, Coombe Wood Strahl, Oxnead Anthem, Oxnead Waterlord, Glyn Eryr Aragon, Oxnead Nourse, Wolontair and today we have 2 amazing imported stallions with Stylo van de Edelweiss and Starmann, both have passed their 30 day performance test with HPT.
Our main objective is to breed Quality, with great Temperment, and ability to be a Performance horse in their disapline, with good mare lines that work well with our stallions, therefore improving the breeding programme in the UK.
The welfare of all visiting mares is a top priority and to this end they are only covered under supervision and always with the stallion in hand. We offer both stabling for the mares or grass keep. and Starmann will be availble for AI (frozen Seman) and Chilled by special arrangement.
Mosscarr Stud started off in the heart of the Peak Disrict, in a tiny village of Hollinclough in Staffordshire, but we relocated in 2025 to Cowbridge, Boston Lincolnshie, but that is the only thing that has changed, same family, same priorities, same understanding, the kettle is always on and we are always happy to talk about Haflingers.

Stories from the Field
In 2023, we were honoured to be approached by FEI Ride Original and invited to take part in a feature film celebrating the Haflinger breed. They contacted me as the owner of the longest-running Haflinger stud in the UK, making it a particularly special opportunity.
The filming took place at Mosscarr Farm, where our Haflinger journey first began. Joining me were Lindsay, with whom I co-owned the much-loved stallions Stylo and Wolontair, and my close friend Richard Norfolk, who rode alongside me throughout the filming.
It was a wonderful experience to share our passion for Haflingers, our history with the breed, and the story of a stud that has been dedicated to Haflinger excellence for generations
